Guide to a Magical Spring Day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Springtime in Orlando can’t be beat.

Imagine warm, sunny weather perfect for swimming and exploring theme parks. Flowers are in bloom. And the excitement of spring break is in the air.

It’s also one of the best times of year to make the most of a visit to Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom theme park.

Hundreds of the park’s resident animals are becoming more active with the warmer weather, and there’s plenty of thrills, adventures, and new experiences to explore.

Here’s our Guide to a Magical Spring Day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

As a Walt Disney World Good Neighbor Hotel, Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista offers a complimentary shuttle to each Walt Disney World theme park – including Animal Kingdom!

Embark on a Wild Tour at Kilimanjaro Safaris

It’s not often that you get to observe majestic African animals up close.

Zebras, giraffes, lions, hippos, elephants, and over 30 other species call the sprawling acreage of Animal Kingdom home.

See most of these animals on the Kilimanjaro Safari excursion, an 18-minute open-air tour of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve. Board a rugged safari vehicle driven by a knowledgeable guide who will share exciting wildlife facts throughout your journey.

You never know which animals will make an appearance on your safari tour, meaning every experience will be totally unique.

Pick up a Pencil at The Animation Experience

Artists and art enthusiasts should visit The Animation Experience at Conservation Station.

Located in Rafiki’s Planet Watch (accessible by a brief ride on the Wildlife Express Train within the park), this 25-minute class harnesses your creative side for a short drawing lesson taught by a talented Disney animator.

The step-by-step instructions make this class perfect for all skill levels. You’ll leave with a free and personal souvenir: your own sketch of a beloved Disney character.

Take a Break at Nomad Lounge

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the largest operating theme park in the world, spanning 580 acres of lush landscape. When you need a well-deserved break from exploring, unwind with a refreshing cocktail at Nomad Lounge.

Inspired by global travel and wanderlust, this cozy spot features flavors that will make you feel like you’re coasting from continent to continent.

Their playfully delicious drink menu pairs perfectly with small plate appetizers like Korean Barbecue Mushroom Bao Buns, Cuban Frita Sliders, and Bangkok Chicken Wings.

Become a Wilderness Explorer

Become a Wilderness Explorer like Russel from the animated Disney-Pixar movie, “Up” and explore the park in this free and interactive experience.

This self-guided scavenger-hunt-style activity is perfect for families with young children and a great way to keep them engaged as you make your way throughout the park.

Brave the Expedition Everest

For thrill-seekers, a trip up Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is a must.

This ride is the only true roller coaster in Animal Kingdom. You’ll take off on a speeding train through the cursed mountain as you attempt to escape the Yeti twisting through the darkness.

This thrilling coaster is not for the faint of heart. Adrenaline-seekers, however, will love the exhilarating ride.

For those who want to bypass most of the longer line and dare to ride alone, the Single Riders line is a great option.

Passengers in a roller coaster seat hold onto their belts and scream while descending a hill surrounded by large rocky walls.

Enjoy a Spectacular Show

Disney brings another beloved story to the stage with “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue...and Beyond!”

This beautiful 25-minute live production features singers, dancers, aerial acrobatics, incredible puppets, and innovative lighting, sound, and special effects.

Catchy original music will have you dancing in your seat throughout the entire performance.

Plus, it offers a welcome air-conditioned respite for cooling off and resting your feet during a day of exploring Animal Kingdom.

Soar Through the Skies on a Mountain Banshee

Pandora – The World of Avatar is one of the newest areas of Animal Kingdom. It transports visitors to the world of the Na’vi, with spectacular scenery, exciting rides, and delicious food all inspired by the popular “Avatar” movie series.

The Avatar Flight of Passage ride is a 3D exploration of the skies as explored from the back of a flying, dragon-like banshee.

Soar through the skies and experience a brand-new world as a brave interstellar explorer on this Na’vi rite of passage ride.

Tall, rocky walls, waterfalls, and aloe-like plants create a fantasy-inspired scene at Animal Kingdom’s Pandora, a beautiful place to enjoy a spring day at Animal Kingdom.
